ADSR

An envelope in music synthesis is a shape that controls how a sound changes over time. The most common type of envelope is called ADSR, which stands for:

Attack – How fast the sound reaches its full volume after you press a key.
Decay – How quickly the volume drops after the attack phase.
Sustain – The volume level that stays as long as you hold the key.
Release – How slowly the sound fades out after you release the key.
